I have tried to make a taggie pillowcase today to cover the beansprout husk pillow which I have lovingly hand made. The bean sprout husks were from my mom and I have further sun it to ensure that it is fully dried.
What is beansprout husk pillow?
Bean Sprout Husk Pillow is usually for babies. Accordingly, from older generation, bean sprout husk pillow is used to calm babies and made them feel more secure (as the pillow has certain weight (the husk is very light weight and will not cause discomfort to the baby). It is used to press lightly on the babies and as it is porous, it will be cool when using it.
I have hand made one for lil enen when she was one month's old. It proves quite effective and till now, she is still using it.. haha.. :)
and so, what is taggie?

Taggies are created by an early childhood educator and mom and they are based on the idea that babies and kids love to rub satin edges, clothing labels and tags.
It seems Taggies can enhance early childhood emotional well being, growth, and provide sense of security. It can also provide entertainment as the babies can play with the assortment and textured ribbons.
(Lil enen loves to rub her fingers with her daddy's shirt when sleepy :))
Usually, taggie is in form of blanket or towel. So I thought, why not the pillow case as the baby will use it more often in our Singapore environment.
I have used three different textured ribbon, satin, grosgrain and smooth, to enhance the feel for baby.
The pillowcase covering the beansprout husk was double-layered (to prevent any husk from falling out), the tags are tripled sewn (to prevent falling out) and cloth used are handwashed and ironed.
Hope the baby will love it.
